Our Story

The building we call home

was built in 1925 as an office building connected to the Cranford Hosiery Mill, the center of a thriving community built around industry. The slow decay and eventual departure of that once vibrant industry left the building vacant and in need of the redemptive grace of a new vision. Pioneering something often begins with a soft yearning, a steady hunger that rolls into a hearty flame. The need for a commonplace in the heart of Asheboro stoked those embers. The once empty vessel of the building was refitted and reformed into what we now know as The Table.

For Dustie this was an open invitation — a meeting place around the table. Tables take on the symbol of acceptance in the sanctuary of our homes. Tables become our Sabbath places; forcing us to pause from the mundanity and whirlwind of our lives. Tables are a place for sharing meals. Unloading our burdens. Tight embraces. Communing in dreams and bright eyed hopes.

Since May 13, 2013, The Table has been open to offer its community the same invitation of belonging, rest, and hope.

At The Table there is always a seat for one more.

Dustie Gregson

A mother of three and wife to a man who has supported her journey from its start.

Prior to opening The Table, Dustie had no experience in running a restaurant, but cultivated a vision of seeking the beautiful through the cracks, on the margins, and in forgotten spaces. Hospitality and nourishing people through good food and good company are gifts that Dustie was given by watching her mother do the same throughout her childhood and into her adult years. Serving others, and making space for anyone and everyone who walks through the door to feel seen, to feel safe and cared for are the markers of Dustie Gregson.

Chef Deanna Clement

Born and raised in Asheboro, NC, Chef Deanna knows this community well. Growing up, helping with her family’s catering business and cooking for family and friends, she discovered her true passion for cooking and for the sense of community that happens around a meal. Preparing dishes of all varieties, as well as understanding techniques and flavor combinations, has always come naturally to her.

Chef Deanna has been with The Table since the very beginning, and put in countless hours of hard work ensuring the dream of this restaurant was realized.

Cooking for others feeds her soul. In the heat and rush of the busiest times is where she finds herself the most comfortable. She leads the kitchen with creativity, joy, and a high standard of excellence and hard work.

Kristiana Van Eyk

Kristiana’s adventures in baking began as a pastry apprentice for The Carolina Hotel of Pinehurst Resort. She spent six exciting years there learning from incredible chefs and growing in her craft. She returned to the triad to be the Pastry Chef of 223 South Elm Restaurant in downtown Greensboro. For nine years she baked desserts and breads for the fine dining venue. Feeling burned out with high-end restaurants, Kristiana seized the amazing opportunity to bake for Sanctuary House, a non profit, rehabilitation program for adults with serious mental illness. This was refreshing and rewarding work to keep her busy while Dustie was renovating the soon-to-be Table in downtown Asheboro. Drawing has been a part of Kristiana’s creative expression for much of her life and that creative spark is what led her to originally go into baking pastries. The space for creativity and freedom to explore and experiment is what excited her most. One of her favorite things is getting to create delicious treats that trigger sweet memories for people. The emotional connection that people have to desserts and pastries is what keeps her baking. Kristiana has been one of the head bakers here since the beginning and is pleased to finally be a part of a team, making pastries for people to enjoy in her hometown.
